It’s finally spring! And, though it felt like it would never get here, the signs are finally showing up here in Ohio. Spring is a time of rebirth, right? So, what better way to get in the spirit of spring than to launch new branding for my channel?
I had been tossing this design around in my head for months, and one day it just came to me and everything “fell together”.
This is something I had been wanting to do for a long time, but just didn’t take the time to do. I had been wanting a logo that would encompass the spirit of adventure that my channel embodies, while still looking professional and not “home made”. I wanted the logo to be clean, professional-looking, and scale-able so it could be used across all forms of media.
I talked with Rob over at Backpacking Adventures (a fantastic guy) about his logo redesign, and decided to dive in and try it myself. My first major was Visual Communications, but I haven’t done logo design in about 15 years. I had been tossing this design around in my head for months, and one day it just came to me and everything “fell together”. The final result is a single-color, flat logo design:
The logo was created in Adobe Illustrator and was taken from the original photo of me (still my about profile pic) from when I camped in the Rockies for four days in 2011. I’ve always like the pic and thought it would translate well. The typeface is League Gothic, and I like it because it’s clean and bold. The background illustration is, of course, my favorite place to be–the mountains.
I think it turned out pretty well. I hope you think so, too, because I’ll be using this pretty much everywhere going forward–the blog, the YouTube channel, the Facebook page, everywhere. And, I’ve already begun incorporating it into a new intro for future videos. Look for it in my next review, on the “buff“.
